SEOUL, Oct. 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korean beauty company APR said Friday that two "Medicube Skin Booster" products are scheduled to officially launch in Chile next month.
APR plans to hold an official distributor certification ceremony and a prelaunch event in Santiago, the Chilean capital, on Oct. 20, inviting about 300 people, including local clinic officials, medical professionals and influencers.
Skin boosters refer to products that apply or inject active ingredients into the skin to improve its condition.
The products APR plans to launch in Chile are "AGE-R" and "AGE-R PLUS G," both based on polynucleotide (PN) material derived from salmon DNA.
AGE-R is an adhesive transparent wound dressing applied to the skin, while AGE-R PLUS G is a biomaterial for tissue repair that is injected subcutaneously.
APR described Chile as "a market with relatively high per-capita income and advanced consumer trends even within Latin America," adding that it "will serve as a strategic foothold for entering the premium Latin American market."
The company said it "plans to expand its supply network to other major neighboring countries, starting with Chile, and gradually broaden its business presence in global markets by strengthening production capabilities and the regulatory approval foundation for each product."
APR previously announced plans to enter the skin booster business in the second half of 2024 and began full-scale production of PN materials in July at the third campus of APR Factory in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.
Based on this production capacity, APR plans to expand supplies of skin boosters to overseas markets including Latin America, Japan and the Middle East.
In South Korea, the company plans to continue preparing for a future launch by developing products and pursuing regulatory approval procedures.
Skin boosters, which are classified as medical devices, must meet relevant regulatory requirements depending on the product category and intended use. AGE-R and AGE-R PLUS G have obtained, respectively, certification as a Class 2 medical device and approval as a Class 4 medical device for export from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
