SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft and Design Foundation will hold a special exhibition of hanji books at Kyobo Book Centre's Gwanghwamun branch in Seoul from Nov. 1-30, they said Thursday.

The exhibition will showcase 11 types of hanji books produced in collaboration with five publishers -- Moonji Publishing, Munhakdongne, Minumsa, Biryeongso and Changbi Publishers. Hanji has been applied to books across various genres, including novels, poetry, picture books and children's stories, demonstrating its potential for modern applications.

The books on display include Choi Seung-ja's poetry collection "And Then, One Day, Love," Park Wan-seo's "Grandma Judy," Ahn Do-hyun's "Salmon," Lee Mi-ruk's "The Yalu River Flows," Lee Suzy's picture book "The River" and "The Complete Poems of Baek Seok" by Baek Seok.

The Korea Craft and Design Foundation signed memorandums of understanding with five publishers this year and launched a project to support the production of hanji books. Six types were unveiled for the first time at the Seoul International Book Fair in June, and have since been sold through bookstores and publishers' distribution networks nationwide.

The special exhibition will display and sell 11 types, including five newly produced books.

The ministry and the foundation will also hold the "2026 International Hanji Culture Forum" on Nov. 25 at the auditorium of the National Folk Museum of Korea, bringing together 10 experts from South Korea and abroad to discuss the modern applications of hanji and ways to expand its distribution and market.
