SEOUL, Nov. 3 (Yonhap) -- The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a revision to the Enforcement Decree of the Framework Act on Administrative Regulation, requiring central government agencies to conduct a regulatory impact analysis when abolishing or relaxing regulations related to people's lives and safety.

Currently, a regulatory impact analysis is required only when regulations are newly created or strengthened. The revision is in line with the government of President Lee Jae Myung's signature policy of saving people's lives.

The revision also introduces an ex-post regulatory impact analysis to objectively and scientifically evaluate whether regulations are achieving their intended goals and remain appropriate amid changing conditions, officials said.

Such ex-post assessments have been operated on a pilot basis since 2023.

"Through the revision, we have established a system to strengthen the management of regulations directly related to the lives and safety of the people, thereby providing robust protection for public safety, while boldly improving unreasonable regulations," Lim Ki-keun, minister for government policy coordination, said.
