SEOUL, Nov.19 (Yonhap) — Drama “Silk” starring Korean-American Spider-woman will be produced in the United States.

Korean program director Angela Kang is in charge of production of this drama, and it will be broadcasted worldwide through Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon Studios announced on Saturday that they will work with Angela Kang and Sony Pictures Television Studios to produce “Silk: Spider Society',” a spin-off of the Spider-Man series, and release it worldwide.

"Silk is some of the most dynamic superhero storytelling around," said Jennifer Salke, CEO.

CEO Jennifer Salke said, "Silk is part of the most dynamic superhero storytelling around," adding, “I am very delighted to show Angela Kang’s creative vision and to provide this work to Prime video customers.

Silk is to deal with the process of Korean-American Cindy Moon, the main character, being reborn as a superhero and her activities.

In the original comics, Cindy Moon is bitten by the same psychic spider that made Peter Parker into Spider-Man and becomes a hero character named Silk.

Angela Kang is a famous producer in Hollywood and has led the production as a showrunner in the popular drama “The Walking Dead” series and “The Spinoff.”

Kang said, “I am excited to join the Amazon Studios family and very happy to take on the challenge of bringing Korean-American superhero Silk to the screen.”

According to Entertainment platforms like Variety,Silk will be first released in the U.S.A through one of Amazon’s streaming platforms MGM+ and then meet fans around the world through prime video.

Hollywood reporter, which focuses on the Hollywood film, analyzed that in order to compete with Disney+ which has vast Marble hero contents, Amazon is putting efforts to retain Spider-man contents starting with Silk.

While Disney has publication rights of most of the characters from Marble hero, Sony Entertainment Group has the commercial rights of Spider-man, one of the most popular heroes in marble.

Sony currently has rights over more than 900 characters including the villains, and with no streaming platform, this content group is expected to work with Amazon to release Spider-man contents for streaming.
