Rock star Yoon Do-hyun recovers from cancer after 3-yr treatment
SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- Yoon Do-hyun recently recovered from cancer after three enduring years of treatment, the South Korean rock star confessed on his social media on Thursday.
The veteran singer wrote on his Instagram, "I was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, and after three years of treatment, I received the news of recovery just two days ago."
He did not provide specific details about the type or symptoms of the cancer. He wrote, "After a health checkup in the summer of 2021, I heard the word 'cancer.' I was astonished, but eventually decided to face it and put my heart into treatment. I underwent two weeks of medication treatment, which did not go well."
"Then I decided to take radiation therapy, and for just under a month, I went to the hospital every morning for the challenging treatment… This was between 2021 and the summer of 2023."
Yoon said he decided not to reveal it to the public. He wrote, "The moment I heard the word 'cancer,' everything went dark in front of me… ‘Yoon Do-hyun, the kick-ass Yoon Do-hyun, has cancer.' I thought it would shock my fans. Even my parents were told the news only recently."
He went on, "The reason I am sharing this now is because just two days ago, after about three years of battling, I was finally confirmed my complete recovery from cancer cells." He reflected, "During all this time, I seriously pondered about life and death for the first time, shed tears alone, and gained many valuable lessons."
"From my experience, I realized that negative thoughts are more dangerous than cancer cells. So, with the hope that you all can overcome all negativity with a positive mindset, I'm sharing this."
Yoon shared a photo of himself in a hospital gown, saying, "I had taken this photo with the intention of sharing it when I recovered on the first day of radiation therapy. I'm grateful to be able to post it now."
While undergoing cancer treatment, Yoon continued various broadcasting activities, including the 2021 variety show “Sing Again 2” with his rock band YB.
Last year, he made a comeback as an MBC radio DJ after 11 years, and has been hosting his signature radio show “Yoon Do-hyun at 4 p.m.”
In February of this year, he also released his first fan song under the name YB, titled Embrace.'"
