LOS ANGELES, July 14 (Yonhap) -- K-pop sensation BTS, which remained atop Billboard's main singles chart for the seventh consecutive week with its second English song "Butter," will participate in a global live performance event to overcome the novel corona virus.
Global Citizen, an international charity organization based in New York, has announced plans for "Global Citizen Live," on Tuesday (KST), according to entertainment media Variety and other media outlets.
"Global Citizen Live" will be held on September 25 and broadcast live for 24 hours from six continents and feature performances from many artists.
The live stages will be held in Seoul, New York and Los Angeles (LA), London and Paris, the U.K., Lagos, Rio de Janeiro, and Sydney.
The concert will be broadcast live on American television network ABC., U.K's BBC., YouTube, Twitter, streaming platform Hulu, and radio platform iHeartRadio.
Global Citizen, which was launched with the aim of ending global poverty and climate change problems, has recently carried out charity activities to help the poor around the world suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The "Global Citizen Live" event will be held as part of Global Citizen's "Recovery Plan for the World" campaign, which requests vaccine donations and financial support to poor countries and end COVID-19 together.
BTS and other top pop stars will appear on stage to perform.
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who collaborated as a composer with BTS to release the attention-grabbing song "Permission to Dance," Canadian R&B star Weekend, and American rapper Doja Cat, who released her new album "Planet Her," are scheduled to appear.
Coldplay, Metallica, Duran Duran, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Shawn Mendes, Usher, Ricky Martin and Andrea Bocelli will perform live as well.
