SEOUL, May 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's 10-million-viewer movie 'The Roundup 4,' starring Ma Dong-seok, will meet Chinese audiences at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival, the actor's agency said on the 22nd.

According to distributor ABO Entertainment, 'The Roundup 4' has been officially invited to the Midnight Fantasy section of the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival, which will be held from June 14 to 23. The film is scheduled to be screened five times during the festival.

The Midnight Fantasy section is dedicated to showcasing genre films from around the world, and previous invitees include Na Hong-jin's 'The Wailing' (2016) and Jung Bum-shik's 'Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum' (2018).

The Shanghai International Film Festival is regarded as one of the largest film festivals in China, alongside the Beijing International Film Festival.

A representative from the distributor stated, "Despite the difficulties in introducing Korean films to China due to the Korean content ban, 'The Roundup 4' has been exceptionally invited to the Shanghai International Film Festival, allowing Chinese audiences to watch the film in theaters."

'The Roundup 4' follows the story of Detective Ma Seok-do (played by Ma Dong-seok) as he takes down an online illegal gambling organization. The film surpassed 10 million cumulative viewers on the 15th.

Earlier this year, in February, the film was officially invited to the 74th Berlin International Film Festival ahead of its release.
