SEOUL, Apr. 15 (Yonhap) -- The upcoming American drama television series “The Idol,” by which South Korean supergroup BLACK PINK’s Jennie will make her screen debut, is reported to premiere out-of-Competition at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May.

This HBO series featuring Jennie has been included in the out-of-Competition Section, according to the lineup unveiled by the festival’s executive committee on Thursday (local time) for the 76th edition. Meanwhile, director Kim Ji-woon’s new feature film “Cobweb” has also been selected for the same category.

Co-created by Abel Tesfaye, The Weeknd, Sam Levison, and Reza Fahim for HBO, the series is set to take place in the music industry to tell the story of a self-help guru and leader of a secret cult who develops a complicated romantic relationship with a rising pop idol.

“The Idol” will mark Jennie’s first appearance as an actress.

YG Entertainment, the artist’s agency, confirmed that her forthcoming series will be premiered at the festival but said that it has not yet been decided whether she will be in attendance at Cannes.
