SEOUL, Feb. 23 (Yonhap) – The group BTS has ranked 2nd on last year’s “Global Artist Chart” selected by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
According to the IFPI announcement on Thursday, BTS has ranked 1st in 2021 and 2nd last year.
BTS first ranked 2nd on the chart in 2018 and 7th in 2019. From 2020 to 2021, they topped the chart for the first time in the history of this chart for two consecutive years.
BTS's agency Bighit Music said, "BTS became the first non-English-speaking singer to top 10 on the Global Artist Chart for five consecutive years, and it ranked the highest as a Korean singer for five consecutive years, proving its status as a '21st century pop icon'."
In addition to BTS, the group SEVENTEEN has ranked 6 and Stray Kids 7, respectively, as K-pop singers. Pop star Taylor Swift has topped the list.
The “Global Artist Chart” is ranked by IFPI by combining album sales, digital music downloads, and audio, video streaming figures around the world every year.
