SEOUL, Dec. 20 (Yonhap) -- In a significant milestone to combat the illegal distribution of K-content abroad, domestic media rights holders have successfully blocked unauthorized access to Korean content websites in India.

CJ ENM announced on the 19th that, in collaboration with the Copyright Overseas Promotion Association (COA), along with members SBS and SLL, they secured a court order to block access to 64 illegal domains and 45 associated websites offering K-content in India. This marks the first instance of local access being blocked by Korean rights holders in the region.

The COA, alongside its members, filed a lawsuit in August at the Delhi High Court, requesting an injunction against internet service providers to block these domains and websites. This effort was supported by member companies of the Motion Picture Association (MPA).

According to the COA, the court recently issued a dynamic injunction, prohibiting access to major global copyright-infringing sites within India. The order also includes provisions to block mirror and alternative sites that may arise in the future.

SBS, SLL, and CJ ENM stated, "We will continue to unite under the association’s leadership, working tirelessly to protect our content overseas through greater collaboration and effort."
