SEOUL April 29 (Yonhap) -- The drama "Queen of Tears" made its mark by breaking the all-time viewership record for a tvN drama during its final broadcast.
According to Nielsen Korea on Monday, the final episode of "Queen of Tears," which aired on tvN at 9:10 p.m. the previous day, recorded a viewership rating of 24.85%.
This surpasses the previous tvN record of 21.68% set by the final episode of "Crash Landing on You," which aired on February 16, 2020. Additionally, it achieved the highest viewership rating among all programs on terrestrial, cable, and satellite channels on the same day.
The last episode of "Queen of Tears" depicted the two protagonists, Hong Hae-in (played by Kim Ji-won) and Baek Hyun-woo (played by Kim Soo-hyun), overcoming all obstacles to reach a happy ending.
Yoon Eun-sung, who had been obsessively pursuing Hae-in, aimed a gun at her, threatening, "I'll take you away even if I have to kill you," but Hyun-woo took the bullet for her and fell. Yoon Eun-sung then meets his end after being shot by the police surrounding him.
Fortunately, Hyun-woo survives the ordeal and recovers his health, while Hae-in gradually regains her lost memories and pledges a happy future together.
Mo Seul-hee (played by Lee Mi-sook) faces the consequences of her illegal actions and serves her time in prison. The Queens Group regains control, and everything falls back into place.
"Queen of Tears" is a romantic comedy that depicts the trials faced by an ordinary man and a chaebol woman in their marriage life. Starting with a viewership rating in the 5% range, it surpassed 10% in episode 4 and exceeded 20% in episode 12, gaining significant popularity.
Starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, the drama was penned by screenwriter Park Ji-eun, known for works like "My Love from the Star" (2013) and "Crash Landing on You."
This drama received acclaim for its unique portrayal of elements such as chaebols and life on a deadline, which are commonly seen in Korean dramas.
