SEOUL, July 15 (Yonhap) -- Blockbuster movie “Top Gun: Maverick” starring Tom Cruise continued on with its long term success.
According to the integrated network of movie tickets by the Korean Film Council, “Top Gun: Maverick” accumulated over 93 thousand viewers, on Thursday safely passing over the 5 million total viewers mark.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” which premiered on July 6 surpassed “Top Gun: Maverick” which premiered in June 22 for a week in South Korean box office, however, “Top Gun: Maverick” took back the lead in July 12 returning back to the top of South Korean box office.
According to the reservation rate on Friday at 8:30 a.m. “Top Gun: Maverick” is leading with the record of 33.4 percent were as “Thor: Love and Thunder” is sitting at 18.0 percent.
Director Park Chan-wook’s latest film “Decision to Leave” attracted total of 35 thousand viewers on Thursday taking the third in the South Korean box office. Due to the enthusiastic viewers who continue to visit the theater to re watch the movie, number of cumulative viewers exceeded over 1 million closely approaching its estimated break even point of 1.2 million audiences.
Heading into the weekend, more than 10 movies have premiered on to the screen.
Animation “Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween”, movie about Rock n Roll god Elvis, “Elvis” and South Korean actor Jang Hyuk’s action movie “ The killer: A Girl Who Deserves To Die”, South Korean horror movie “Contorted” and more have landed high up on the chart among newly premiered movies.
