SEOUL, Jan. 10 (Yonhap) -- Netflix’s survival series “Squid Game” will attempt for the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. (KST).
The sensational South Korean drama "Squid Game" has been nominated in three categories, including the best TV drama series, at the 79th annual Golden Globe Awards.
It is the first time that a South Korean TV show has earned a nod from the Golden Globes and attempted for the awards.
Oscar-winning "Parasite" was excluded from the Best Picture and Best Actor Category since it was nominated as a foreign film. The American film “Minari” was also in the same boat as "Parasite" because it was created in Korean.
It is the first time a Korean actor will compete for the Golden Globes since the series’ lead Lee Jung-jae is up for best TV actor in a drama series and O Yeung-su will attempt for the best supporting actor in TV.
So far, a Korean actor has never won a Golden Globe award except for Sandra Oh, a Korean-Canadian actress, and Awkwafina, whose mother is South Korean.
Meanwhile, the Golden Globe Award is recently facing criticism in the movie industry due to allegations of corruption and controversy over racial and gender discrimination.
The awards ceremony will be held with no audience and won’t be televised or streamed. The results will be announced through social media and the homepage in real-time.
