SEOUL April 14 (Yonhap) -- “When I was in South Korea I took a lovely walk outside, however throughout that walk stranger approached me and asked me whether I was Imase. In that exact moment I experienced the fame and recognition.” Japanese rising artist imase addressed throughout the interview conducted on April 13 at Mapo district, Seoul.
Artist rose to fame globally through his track “Night Dancer” released in August of 2022, as the song became viral through various social media including TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reals, and more.
“Night Dancer” which withholds colorful melody with urbanized lyrics depicts the mild but romantic relationship between a couple after spending a night together. The sound portrayed throughout the track showcases imase’s various vocal styles with easygoing melody reminds listeners with city pop genre of tracks often witnessed in Japan within the 1980s.
When I first started to plan out the track my initial goal was to come up with a track easy for listeners to enjoy while driving.
For the first time, a J-pop track “Night Dancer” has successfully ranked 17th within the South Korean music streaming platform Melon.
“I am very excited and honored that a lot of South Korean listeners enjoyed my track ‘Night Dancer’ despite of the language barrier,” adding “I will do my best to come up with great tracks, with the goal to produce chart topping track.” imase smiled while addressing his future intention.
Amongst various short form platforms, imase has single handedly exceeded over 1.2 billion hits on TikTok.
Various stars including IVE, Stray Kids, Ateez and more has participated in the dance challenge using imase’s “Night Dancer” and over 110 thousand various dance challenges have been created using the track.
Artist addressed “Within the ecosystem of Short Form, if the content cannot attract the viewers instantly users will move on to other contents immediately,” adding “Therefore I tend to focus on not only the music but also the music video to leave long lasting impression.”
Imase released his debut single album “Have a Nice day” in 2021 which is only a year after he learned how to produce and compose tracks. Moreover, artist stated that he gradually fell into the path of singer songwriter after buying a guitar after seeing his friend buy one.
“My goal is to become an artist who can showcase the unique merits of various Japanese tracks to listeners around the world.” addressed imase during the interview.
Imase performed “Night Dancer” at a Musinsa Garage located in Mapo district, Seoul on April 13 at 8 p.m. and greeted his fans.
“I really like BIG Naughty’s tracks, songs are amazing and they all sound so cool.” addressed artist imase when asked of the question whether he had any South Korean artists that he want to collaborate with.
