SEOUL, July 29 (Yonhap) -- The live film adaptation of the musical 'Hero,' which portrays the final year of Korean independence activist An Jung-geun, will be exclusively released at Megabox on the 21st of next month, as announced by the production company Wys En Scene on the 29th.
The musical 'Hero' covers An Jung-geun's resolution to fight for independence with his comrades, his preparation for the historic assassination, and his eventual execution following the assassination of Ito Hirobumi in Harbin in October 1909. Since its premiere in 2009, 'Hero' has been highly acclaimed, winning six awards at both The Musical Awards and the Korean Musical Awards.
As a domestic creative musical, 'Hero' surpassed one million cumulative audience members, making it the second to achieve this milestone after 'The Last Empress.' In 2022, it was also adapted into a film by director Yoon Je-kyoon.
In 'Hero: Live in Cinema,' Jung Sung-hwa, who has played An Jung-geun since the original production, reprises his role. Kim Do-hyung takes on the role of Ito Hirobumi, while Jung Jae-eun plays Seol-hee, the last court lady of Empress Myeongseong, who seeks revenge against Ito.
