SEOUL, July 25 (Yonhap) -- One will be able to meet the past and present of Gwanghwamun Square, which will reopen on August 6, through the 3D super-resolution video.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Monday that it will be operating the "Virtual Gwanghwamun Plaza Real Spot Experience Zone" at Haechi Madang in Gwanghwamun from August 6-7.
In the experience zone, the past and present of Gwanghwamun Square were realistically reenacted through the 3D graphic technology and the real-time stereoscopic image transmission technology, "Holoportation."
Through the hologram device and the media pad, visitors will be able to watch the transformation of Gwanghwamun Square from the Yukjo Geori (Street of Six Ministries, symbolized the royal government that lasted over 500 years) of the Joseon Dynasty till where it is today. When a visitor set the desired time, space, season, and weather they would want to see, a super-high-resolution graphic of the inserted setting will be displayed.
The city will also provide a service that sends a photo by e-mail immediately after taking a photo with the background of the Joseon Dynasty's Yukjo Geori in a virtual space.
From this day till August 10, a super-high-resolution video introducing Gwanghwamun Square will be broadcasted on the bus and subway monitors along with outdoor electronic billboards.
Prior to the opening of Gwanghwamun Plaza, on August 5, the fusion traditional music group "Bidan" will perform a convergence realistic media performance at Haechi Madadng, incorporation with "Proto," a holoportation device, for the first time in Korea. Traditional instruments such as haegeum (traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings) and gayageum (traditional Korean plucked zither with 12 strings) will be played, while realistic images created using protos are presented.
"We will continue to provide attractive convergence digital content services," a Seoul official said.
