SEOUL, Mar. 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korean veteran actor Cho Seung-woo, who recently garnered attention for his leading role as a cold-hearted prosecutor in “Forest of Secrets,” is set to appear as a playful and humane divorce lawyer.

During the online press conference of his upcoming Saturday-Sunday television series “Divorce Attorney Shin” held on Thursday, Cho said, “Shin Seong-han, the role I will play, is a person full of humanity from head to toe.”

“I chose this work as Shin was a warm-hearted role who actually knew how to respect others unlike prosecutor Hwang I played in my previous work,” he added.

The television series sees Cho as Shin, who was a former music professor in Germany before becoming a lawyer to uncover the truth of breathtaking news. He makes an unexpected twist in his life from a classical artist to a divorce lawyer who loves trot and fights for his clients with unfortunate stories by any means.

It was Cho who made a personal suggestion to the screenwriter that Shin enjoys music.

“I wanted the way I express Shin to be completely different from the way I acted out prosecutor Hwang and the way he solved the cases. When Shin delved into his clients’ cases, he wished to express himself as if he was analyzing a music piece as he did back in the days when he played the piano.”

The chemistry among the three veteran actors -- Cho, Kim Sung-kyun, and Jung Moon-sung --, who appear as three homies since elementary school will also be an element that catches the eyes of viewers.

Cho said, “Even for a scene that was only 30 seconds long, I think we could have improvised for more than half an hour if the director had not stopped us,” adding with a smile, “I am not trying to blow my own horn here.”

Kim Sung-kyun, who made himself known for his role in “Reply 1994,” said, “I was sure I finished my lines that were written in the script but I could not hear the director shouting cut. But even without the lines, we continued acting without any problem, which made me realize that we are actually a very well-harmonized team.”

Cho will also be co-starring with actress Han Hye-jin, who will be returning to the small screens in three years. She will play Lee Seo-jin, a radio DJ. Han said, “I pondered over how to help the viewers relate to the character as she had a reasonable background for deciding to have a divorce. It was particularly difficult to shoot with a child whom I felt sorry for my decision.”

Director Lee Jae-hoon, who took the helm, said confidently, “Since the main protagonist is a divorce lawyer, there are the so-called “soap opera elements,” ranging from infidelity, love affairs, and marital conflicts to secrets of birth, featured in our drama. However, they are not provocatively portrayed. Ours will be a warm and pleasant one to watch.”

This upcoming webtoon-turned-drama “Divorce Attorney Shin” will premiere at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday (KST).
