SEOUL, May 8 (Yonhap) -- "I gained courage after hearing my mother's advice to try trot before giving up on my musician life... Back when I majored in classical singing, I could never imagine myself in this position," said Yeom Yu-ri, a rising star of TV Chosun's auditioning show "Miss Trot Season 3 (Miss Trot 3)."
She majored in classical singing during college and saw trot as a last resort before giving up on the path of a musician. Although she had an interest in the genre thanks to her mother, who enjoyed listening to trot, she couldn't imagine herself performing on stage with trot singing techniques.
Dreaming of becoming a popera singer, Yeom Yu-ri achieved her dream through the path of trot. Starting with her appearance on the TV Chosun audition program 'Miss Trot 3,' she has been experiencing unbelievable days.
Yeom Yu-ri said in an interview at the Yonhap News Agency building on the 7th, "It's amazing that I have a fan club and that my appearance is on TV," and added, "I now truly feel that I have become a singer."
She gained attention on 'Miss Trot 3' for her unique background as a 'classical singing major trot singer.' Although she ranked 11th due to lyric mistakes, narrowly missing the threshold for the semi-finals, she proved her talent by receiving praise from judge Kim Yeon-ja, who called her a 'vocal genius.'
Reflecting on her experience, Yeom Yu-ri said, "They liked that I could show various sides of myself," and added, "Despite showing outward results during the audition period, I felt pressured to constantly show new aspects of myself. I practiced singing trot and dancing late into the night to overcome my weaknesses."
She said, "I knew that people don't easily accept someone who switches fields, so I worked even harder," and added, "I'm still practicing to make trot singing my own."
Although her first audition appearance was difficult, she gained more through her TV appearances. Especially, the repetitive competitions and challenges became a driving force for her personal growth.
She said, "My friends used to say I had a weak mind, but thanks to the constant competition, I now have a 'strengthened glass mentality'," and added, "If given the chance to participate again, I want to challenge myself and make up for my mistakes."
Being selected as a 'featured performer' for the nationwide tour concert of 'Miss Trot 3,' which started on the 3rd, was also an achievement. With the enthusiastic support of her family and the fan club 'Class' formed during the broadcast, she is approaching the concert with a special feeling.
Yeom Yu-ri said, "It's meaningful to hear that my family is gathering because of me," and added with a smile, "I felt their strength when they all wore white clothes, which is my fan color. Even my mother, who is usually critical, praised me during the broadcast."

Regarding her fan club, she expressed gratitude, saying, "I feel sorry but also thankful for the fans who waited for me for a long time and came from far away to support me," and added, "I won't forget the faces of my fans even after decades."
Yeom Yu-ri, who released her debut song 'I'll Go to You Like the Wind' in 2019, is preparing for the release of her first trot album. As she debuted as a trot singer late, she is eager to show her charm as soon as possible.
She said, "I want to show that I can proficiently handle various genres from ballad trot to traditional trot," and added, "Many fans are still worried about whether I can perform well on stage, but I hope they watch my growth."
"I want to show my singing for a long time in the future. I hope to become a singer who reaches out to the public with various aspects, so I hope you will watch me kindly."
