SEOUL, Sep. 29 (Yonhap) -- Model and actress Jung Ho-yeon surprised the "Squid Game" fans saying that it was her debut production as an actress.
Jung who participated in "Korea's Next Top Model" has worked overseas since 2017 with her red hair as a trade mark. She appeared in luxury brands' advertisements and ranked in top 50 world female model in September 2018.
She moved from Esteem Entertainment, an agency for models to Saram Entertainment which mainly manages for actors. She then debuted as an actor playing the role of Kang Sae-byeok who stood out the most out of the women characters in "Squid Game."
Kang is a North Korean defector who lived a harsh life even pickpocketing but joined the game after losing all her money to a fraud. Jung made a strong impression to the Korean and foreign watchers for playing the character.

Although her acting skills received both good and bad comments, she earned the most benefit from the series as her Instagram followers increased from 400,000 to 4.1 million after the series was released.
Her mysterious and unique appearance and voice are expected to be a merit for her acting career. Jung is also known to be dating with a 9 years older actor Lee Dong-hwi for 6 years.
Meanwhile, Lee Yoo-mi who took the role of Ji-yeong and showed a 'womance' with Jung in "Squid Game" is also gaining interest.
She debuted in 2009 as a CF model and appeared in films such as "The Avian Kind" and "Park Hwa-young." She impressed the watchers as So-yeon in "Hostage" starring Hwang Jung-min and made a synergy with "Squid Game." Her Instagram followers hopped from 40,000 to 500,000 as well.
