SEOUL, June 2 (Yonhap) -- Park Bo-gum’s new action drama "Good Boy", featuring intense hand-to-hand combat and raw physical action, kicked off with a solid viewership rating in the 4 percent range.
According to ratings research firm Nielsen Korea on Sunday, the first episode of JTBC’s new weekend drama "Good Boy", which aired at 10:50 p.m. the previous night, recorded a nationwide rating of 4.8 percent.
The premiere episode followed the struggles of former national athletes—Yoon Dong-joo (played by Park Bo-gum), Ji Han-na (Kim So-hyun), Kim Jong-hyun (Lee Sang-yi), Go Man-sik (Heo Sung-tae), and Shin Jae-hong (Tae Won-seok)—who are now police officers.
Yoon Dong-joo, a former Olympic gold medalist in boxing, is a headstrong cop who can’t stand injustice and acts with his fists before his head. After being demoted due to repeated mishaps, he unexpectedly uncovers a lead connected to the Gold Rabbit gang and begins tracking them on his own.
The episode ends with a thrilling sequence: former boxer Yoon Dong-joo engages in a brawl with multiple gang members in an abandoned factory; sharpshooter Ji Han-na silently takes down intruders; fencing silver medalist Kim Jong-hyun fights off attackers with a broom; and discus bronze medalist Shin Jae-hong overturns a hit-and-run vehicle by hurling a manhole cover at it. These intersecting scenes offer a satisfying dose of adrenaline.
The drama vividly portrays the former glory of these one-time national champions, showing that they haven’t lost their edge as they rise to fight once more—with dynamic, well-executed action.
It’s also a drama where viewers can see Park Bo-gum battered and drenched in sweat. His character is constantly drenched from stakeouts under the blazing sun, thrown into muddy brawls, and rarely seen without bruises or scabs on his face.
Unlike the shy yet emotionally grounded characters he portrayed in "Reply 1988", "Love in the Moonlight", and "You Have Done Well", Park Bo-gum brings a refreshing intensity to the role with a brash and brawling persona.
