SEOUL, Apr. 3 (Yonhap) -- Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation’s brand-new period rom-com “Joseon Attorney,” starring Woo Do-hwan and WJSN’s Kim Ji-yeon, has kicked off with an average national rating in the range of 2 percent.
Set during the Joseon period, this new Friday-Saturday television series, which premiered at 9:50 p.m. last Friday, scored a rating of 2.8 percent, slightly lower than the first episode of the recently wrapped-up “Kokdu: Season of Deity,” which recorded a rating of 4.8 percent.
The first episode featured Kang Han-soo (Woo Do-hwan), an adept attorney who seeks revenge on the person responsible for the death of his parents through a trial, filing a lawsuit on behalf of businessman Park (Choi Jae-hwan).
Kang wins the trial by misleading the crowd with his rather playful acting and eloquent defense while reenacting his client’s story. However, he ends up getting locked up in a desolate warehouse by Jang Dae-bang (Lee Joon-hyuk), whom he filed a lawsuit against.
Meanwhile, the episode also gave a sneak peek at the blooming romance between Kang and Princess Lee Yeon-joo (Kim Ji-yeon), as the princess also stands on the side of businessman Park.
In this series, Woo perfectly suits up as Kang Han-soo, an idle attorney who loves both alcohol and women. Nevertheless, while it was rather fresh to watch a period series set in the Joseon dynasty telling the story of an attorney, the plotline was not seamless enough while featuring Princess Lee, the daughter of the previous king, suddenly leaving the palace and starting to run an inn, as well as when Kang gets easily caught and locked up in a snake-filled warehouse.
