SEOUL, Sept. 11 (Yonhap) -- Veteran actor Song Kang-ho has been cast in filmmaker Nam Dong-hyeop’s upcoming film “The Gardeners” (working title), production company Hive Media Corp. said Thursday.
The film tells the story of a civil servant whose only hobby is growing houseplants. After falling into massive debt, he joins forces with the neighborhood troublemaker to launch an unusual horticulture business. What begins as a quiet venture soon throws the peaceful village into unexpected chaos.
Song will play Choi Young-il, a civil servant who finds joy as a “sikjibsa (plant butler),” someone who nurtures and grows plants.
Nam made his debut with the horror-comedy film “Handsome Guys” (2024), which earned him the Best New Director award at this year’s Directors Cut Awards.
Production of “The Gardeners” is aiming to begin filming next year.
