SEOUL, April 7 (Yonhap) -- Mark of K-pop boy group NCT officially debuted as a solo artist on Sunday with the release of his first solo album The Firstfruit, according to his agency SM Entertainment.
The album is a deeply personal project that traces Mark’s life journey through four cities that shaped him: his hometown Toronto, his first place of residence New York, his school years in Vancouver, and finally Seoul, where he pursued his dream of becoming a singer.
Comprising 13 tracks, including the title song 1999, the album reflects the singer’s autobiographical narrative.
The title track 1999 is an upbeat pop song that features vibrant instrumental sounds. It conveys the artist’s joy at releasing his first solo album, likening the moment to reliving the year of his birth — 1999.
“This is an album that I poured my entire self into, based on my life,” said Mark. “It captures my creative energy and honest emotions more deeply than anything I’ve done before. My story is laid bare throughout.”
He added, “If you want to understand who Mark is, both as a person and as an artist, The Firstfruit is the album to listen to.”
Reflecting on his solo debut, Mark said, “Preparing for this album made me fall in love with myself and my journey in a way I never had before. It was a truly special time filled with emotions I wouldn’t have experienced otherwise.”
Mark will hold a showcase to celebrate the release of The Firstfruit at 8 p.m. KST today at FB Theater in Seongsu Cultural and Arts Center in Seoul, where he will perform 1999 and other tracks from the album.
