SEOUL, Dec. 19 (Yonhap) -- "This song is a carol for fans. I hope It can be like a 'Christmas Miracle' present to all."
From the leader of girl group Lovelyz to solo artist, Lee Su-jeong is meeting fans with warm Christmas carol "Christmas Miracle."
Lee, who met with Yonhap News Agency recently, expressed her thoughts on releasing new album in eight months after her first EP "My name."
The new single is a collaborative song with singer Leewoo. This is first time in six years that Lee is releasing a duet single since her "Sunny Today" with Lovelyz member Ryu Soo-jung in 2016.
Lee said, "I very much looked forward to this because I usually sing in a group or by myself, but this is my first time singing with someone who is not from our agency," adding, " I really liked the synergy that comes out when two tones join, something that can't be done alone."
The new single begins with the soft voices of Leewoo and Lee Su-jeong and when it reaches the chorus, it becomes lively with cheerful drum sound, creating Christmas atmosphere.
Lee said, "While many carols are sung solo, this song is a deut song and has both ballad's sentiment and carol's lightness, which makes it unique."
Lee Su-jeong debuted as a member of girl group Lovelyz in 2014 with the name "Baby Soul." With her vocal and rap skills, she made herself known to the public by releasing hit songs such as "Ah-Chool," "Destiny," etc.
Eliminated in the first round, Lee said, "There were so many people who were so good, and who only dedicate themselves to rap; so I had to admit the results," adding, "But I was dissapointed that I couldn't show more performances."
Lee Soo-jung is still challenging herself even though eight years have passed since her debut, including standing alone and challenging herself to rap competition program.
Lee Soo-jung, who covered R&B, jazz, and pop in "My Name," heralded a new challenge in new single. Lee said, "Next time, I want to try genres like city pop, reggae, and blues."
"These days, I have been binge-watching a program called 'Hyori's Homestay' since season 1, and I want to make music that makes people feel comfortable like the program."
In a year where girl groups are active and showing remarkable performances, Lee was asked if she was not afraid to work solo.
Lee answered, "I do not particularly feel pressured because there is only me who can talk about my story."
"We don't even known who we are. I really enjoy getting to know myself more through music. And wouldn't it be cool to honestly express these findings about me in music? (laugh)"
