SEOUL December 6 (Yonhap) -- A man who gets kidnapped by group organ traffickers, gets his body amputated, and gets his eyes pulled out. Throughout the process of organ extraction, tentacles extend out of his body and got intertwined while healing the man’s body. After he fully recovered, he suffered for a bit but quickly found his peace.
New breed of mankind, the one without a killable body, Connect. Upcoming Disney Plus series, “Connect” successfully showcased the vibe, scenes, and the story line of the Webtoon by the name of “Connect” as a drama series. Amputated body parts which appear throughout the series makes people cover their eyes often.
Japanese known for his works throughout action, mystery, thriller and more genre’s of movie Miike Takashi directed the upcoming series “Connect.” Director is known for his horror movie “One Missed Call” from 2003, “First Love” in 2020, “Lesson of the Evil” in 2012, “13 Assassins” from 2010 and more, therefore with mind blowing and eye catching scenes throughout the series director makes the audience glued to their seats.
Director Miike Takashi’s first collaboration with actor Jung Hae-in, Go Kyung-pyo and more south Korean actors and actress, Connect deals with the subject matter of immortal body possessed by the new breed of mankind and the intertwining storyline with the serial killer who gets eye transplant. Actor Jung Hae-in acts out the new mankind Connect, Dong-soo and Go Kyung-pyo acts out the serial killer Jin-Seop.
Total of 6 episodes will be included within the first season, three of the episodes which was reviled early only for the press give out the horror movie vibe with SF thriller like story. First couple hours of the series, director puts emphasis on the settings which later on works as a very solid horror film like atmosphere by putting focus on the gruesome segments or sudden bell rings and more.
Comparably if Dong-soo follows the gruesome and bit nasty storyline throughout the series, Jin-seop’s story line showcases cold, and dark atmosphere which works perfectly with the whole odd but yet scary theme of the series.
Jin-seop showcases his first artwork by presenting a female statue where the woman is intertwined with the rose bush. Although it looked very pretty and elegant in a way, as people got closer and closer to the statue to admire the art, bloods started to drip out of the statue’s eyes, finger tips, and more. The sculpture like figure was made by the dead victim of Jin-seop’s murder.
Contradicting actions showcased by Jung Hae-in and Go Kyung-pyo throughout the series is stunning. Although these actors are known for their skills, however with “Connect” it seems as if they have managed to step out of the preexisting boundaries that they have previously shown throughout their works.
After both of the characters find out about connected visions, Dong-soo and Jin-seop gets collided into one. Song released by Dong-soo to lessen the loneliness by releasing the track online works as a mean of connection between the two characters. Song written by South Korean singer songwriter Sunwoo Jung-a provides a comfort through its melodic lines.
As the story unfolds, it attracts the audiences with more intertwined relationship between Dong-soo and Jin-Seop, Unknown helper of Dong-soo, Choi Yi-rang acted by Kim Hye-jun and detective Choi, acted by Kim Roi-ha all gets caught up with the protagonist.
However, the way SF genre of movies or series are very direct with delivering the scene, it sometimes kill the hype and tension built throughout the series. Dong-soo directly delivers, “That when one of my eyes got transplanted into someone else,” adding “The one with my eye is a serial killer,” throughout the series like a commentary.
Moreover, the sudden chase of the serial killer once Dong-soo found out about his missing eye, its little bit overwhelming. It seems as if he tries to act out as a hero who saves the day in the end, Dong-soo needs better motivation to support his drive towards fighting evil.
