SEOUL, May 3 (Yonhap) -- Universal Music Group (UMG), the world's largest music content company, has reached a resolution in its license negotiations with the video-sharing platform TikTok.

UMG announced on May 2 (local time) that it has signed a new license agreement with TikTok, stating that the music of its affiliated artists will once again be available on the platform.

This development comes after a three-month hiatus since February when TikTok suspended the service of songs by UMG-affiliated artists due to failed negotiations.

UMG manages the content of global music stars such as Taylor Swift, BTS, Justin Bieber, and Drake.

The negotiations faced difficulties due to differences in views regarding content usage fees.

The specific terms of the new agreement have not been disclosed. However, both parties have agreed to improve compensation for artists and provide opportunities for album promotion.

They have also committed to striving for "industry-leading protection" regarding user-generated AI content, aiming to develop tools for removing unauthorized AI music and enhancing attribution for artists and songwriters.

Previously, UMG accused TikTok of expanding its business using popular music content without fair compensation, while TikTok countered that UMG prioritized its own greed over the interests of artists.

As a result of the failed license negotiations on February 1, TikTok suspended the service of songs by UMG-affiliated artists. However, Swift's music returned to TikTok on April 12, ahead of other artists.
