SEOUL, Apr. 3 (Yonhap) -- Japanese animated blockbuster “Suzume” has topped the weekend box office chart for four weeks in a row.

The mystery adventure anime maintained its first place by accumulating more than 581,000 moviegoers (62.0% of sales share) over the past three days (Mar. 31 to Apr. 2), according to data released by Korea Film Council Monday. As of Sunday, this red-hot Japanese anime raked in 3.784 million admissions.

If the animation continues to better its record at this rate, the anime is expected to surpass the record set by the mega-hit basketball anime “The First Slam Dunk,” which currently holds the title of the best Japanese film released in South Korea in terms of admissions, only in a week or two.

“The First Slam Dunk,” released on Jan. 4, has been continuing its hot streak for weeks, attracting more than 62,000 moviegoers (6.8%) this weekend and maintaining its presence on the box office chart in third place. As of the previous day, the anime scored a cumulative audience of 4.381 million.

The newly released “Dungeon & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” touched down in second place by raking in 120,000 admissions (13.3%) this weekend. This brand-new action adventure features a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers embarking on a quest to retrieve a long-lost relic, starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Hugh Grant.

Meanwhile, the book-based film “A Man Called Otto” sat in sixth place, followed by “Farewell My Concubine the Original,” which hit the big screens once again in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the late actor Leslie Cheung, scoring tenth place.
