SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- "Player2: The War of the Scammers" (hereinafter 'Player2') starring Song Seung-heon concluded with a satisfying revenge plot and achieved its highest viewership rating of 4.3%
On the 10th, Nielsen Korea reported that the final episode (Episode 12) of tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama Player2, which aired on the 9th at 8:50 PM, recorded a viewership rating of 4.3%. This surpasses the drama’s previous highest rating of 4.2%.
The final episode depicted the process of the protagonist Kang Ha-ri (played by Song Seung-heon) and his team bringing the criminal mastermind Jeffrey Jeong (Kim Kyung-nam), who had murdered their colleague Cha Ah-ryeong (Jung Soo-jung), to justice.
Kang Ha-ri falsely confessed to colluding with Jeffrey Jeong in various crimes and publicly exposed President Choi Sang-ho (Cho Sung-ha) for his collusion with Jeong, leading to Choi’s resignation.
In a desperate move, Jeffrey Jeong kidnaps Jeong Soo-min (Oh Yeon-seo), but Kang Ha-ri and his team locate and rescue her. Jeong attempts to flee the country but is ultimately apprehended by Kang Ha-ri and his team at the port and handed over to the prosecution.
In prison, Jeffrey Jeong meets his end at the hands of a mysterious woman who comes to visit him. The story concludes with Kang Ha-ri and his team returning to their daily lives, hinting at a new operation in the future.
The final episode featured special appearances by webtoon artist and broadcaster Kian84 and actress Lee Sung-kyung. Kian84 appeared as a webtoon artist and played a scene where he reprimanded hacker Lim Byung-min, portrayed by his close friend actor Lee Si-eon. Lee Sung-kyung made a strong impression as the mysterious woman responsible for Jeffrey Jeong's demise.
Player2 is the sequel to the 2018 OCN drama Player, which achieved a high viewership rating of up to 5.8%. The series is an action thriller about a team of con artists, hackers, fighters, and drivers who use any means necessary to bring criminals to justice.
The drama attracted attention with its clear-cut moral themes and fast-paced plot twists. However, some viewers felt that the somewhat exaggerated scenarios, such as the president directly issuing orders to the protagonists, diminished the immersion in the story.
