Three of Cheongju City's movie theaters to offer options of using reusable cups to audiences

SEOUL March 22 (Yonhap) -- Cheongju city government addressed on Wednesday, they are working on a project titled “Eco cinema” where it proceeds towards eliminating the use of disposable cups.

Cinemas being part of the project are CGV Cheongju (Seomun), CGV G-Well City, and CGV yullyang all located within Cheongju city.

Visitors to the movie theater will be offered with a choice of receiving their drinks in a disposable cup or a reusable cup. After using the reusable cup viewers can simply return the cup to the collecting bins placed throughout movie theater.

The collecting bins will be taken by the cleaning agent Trashbusters and later process through high water pressure cleaning routine and returned to the movie theater after being fully processed.

The reusable cup made out of plastic uses PP shortened for polypropylene where users can use the cup over 100 times without worrying about health concerns. Moreover the cup can be used in various other ways.

In order to implement the project, Cheongju City Government formulated over 200 million won in budget, and signed a contract with Cj CGV and cleaning agent Trashbusters for the project.

Cheongju city participated in a test run of the “Eco Cinema” project in five of the various theaters starting in February of 2022 until December of 2022.

As a result they managed to eliminate about 130 thousand disposable cups throughout the process.

The Cheongju City Government official addressed “In order for people to implement the usage of reusable cups and tableware throughout our daily lives we will do our best to come up with incentives and various other programs.”
