SEOUL, Sep.7 (Yonhap) -- As the South Korean fashion industry expects ‘robe coats’ to dominate 2021 men’s fall season, they are pacing up launching a wide range of relevant products.
Robe coats resemble lounge wears with their belt-like strap attached around the waist like bath robes.
Jill Stuart New York, an LF fashion brand, has increased its men’s f/w robe coats for this year 2 times more than last year, according to the fashion industry Tuesday.
Generally, belt straps are more commonly seen in women’s apparels, but the recent expectation took the escalation of ‘genderless’ trend into account which is a movement to break down the boundaries between men’s and women’s clothes.
More demand for comfortable clothes due to the resistant spread of the COVID-19 infection is another reason to view robe coats as this year’s trend.
Jill Stuart New York has put various robe coats on display including products with quilting fillings in the back enhancing the thermal quality, check-patterned products and cozy looking coats made with tweed.
“The highlights are the round shaped shoulders and the comfortable silhouette like when slipping into a gown,” said Ryu Jae-hyuk, head designer of LF Jill Stuart New York
‘TIME HOMME,’ a men’s apparel brand of Hyundai Department Group’s fashion company Handsome, will release a “handmade robe coat” made with cashmere in the middle of September.
The company’s another brand ‘SYSTEM HOMME’ will present a collarless robe coat.
“Comfortable outers were popular last year as well, but this year’s products are looser. It will also look fancy to drop the coat’s belt strap loose,” said an official from Handsome.
Samsung C&T Corporation’s fashion branch ‘Lemaire’ has also dropped an ivory robe coat which can be worn both indoors and outdoors.
“Robe coats are gaining spotlights on recent fashion stages overseas as well. The coats will also make a comfortable match with similar tone-colored shirts or turtle necks,” said an official from Samsung C&T.
