SEOUL, Oct. 15 (Yonhap) -- Psychiatrist and family counseling specialist Dr. Oh Eun-young will deliver a special lecture titled "Ways to Speak and Understand Diversely" aimed at multicultural families.
Dr. Oh’s talk is part of the "2024 Korea Multicultural Festa (DaDaFe)," a multicultural festival co-hosted by the state-run news agency Yonhap News and Woori Financial Group’s Woori Multicultural Scholarship Foundation. The event will be held on the 25th at the SETEC Convention Center in Gangnam, Seoul.
Dr. Oh's lecture will focus on effective communication methods in a multicultural society, emphasizing both verbal and emotional aspects. She will also discuss ways to understand and communicate effectively with multicultural families, aiming to help attendees, including multicultural family support center workers, multicultural family members, and the general public.

This year’s DaDaFe is themed "Connecting Diversity, Embracing Multiculturalism." The opening ceremony will feature participants such as Shin Young-sook, Vice Minister of Gender Equality and Family, In Yo-han, a top representative of the People Power Party, and Jasmine Lee, President of the Korea Cultural Diversity Organization. The opening performance will be delivered by the Woori Multicultural Children’s Choir.
The festival includes two main sessions. In the first session, the "Multicultural Awards" will recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to a multicultural society. A total of ten awards will be presented to groups and individuals.
The second session will feature a multicultural forum, special lecture, and a talk concert. The forum, titled "The Path We Have Walked, and the Path Ahead," will discuss immigration and foreigner policy cooperation between central and local governments. Cho Young-hee, a research fellow at the Korea Immigration Policy Institute, will present an overview of Korea’s immigration policy and multicultural landscape. Other presentations will include case studies by Choi Young-il, head of the Gimpo City Foreign Residents Support Center, and Ilya Belyakov, a professor at Suwon University’s Foreign Language Department.
The talk concert, under the theme "Imagining Our Future Together," will be hosted by communication entertainer Oh Jong-cheol, who will engage with participants on-site.

The event is open to anyone interested in multiculturalism. Registration is available through the "2024 Korea Multicultural Festa" special website (https://www.yna.co.kr/2024-site/multicultural). The main events will be live-streamed on the K-VIBE YouTube channel, an English-language Hallyu community site operated by Yonhap News (https://www.youtube.com/@KVIBE_yonhap). However, Dr. Oh’s special lecture will not be part of the live stream.
Ahead of the event, a "Multicultural Story Submission Event," which invites stories and experiences from those working in multicultural family support, will run until the 18th. Any individual or organization supporting multicultural families can participate via a Google form (https://forms.gle/fjBrvnbGv84Erfr7A). Selected stories will be shared during the talk concert.
