SEOUL, April 2 (Yonhap) -- The production company of KBS 2TV's popular drama, "River Where the Moon Rises", Victory Contents filed a compensation suit against the agency of actor Ji-soo, who dropped out of the leading role due to his past school violence issues.
Victory Contents announced on the 2nd that they filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Court to compensate 3 billion won for damages related to additional production costs caused by the replacement of the main character.
Regarding the lawsuit, Victory Contents stated, "We were almost done with shooting all the scenes for the drama when the controversy over Ji-soo's school violence came to light. However, as the actor was replaced, we had no choice but to re-shoot all of the scenes."
The drama production company also explained that the original production cost for the drama was more than 20 billion won because it was a tent-pole drama. However, re-filming the drama from the start required additional money, therefore was a tremendous loss for the company.
"We have suffered direct damage to various staff costs, venue and equipment fees, appearance fees, and art costs due to re-shooting. Additionally, we had to deal with the drop in viewership, foreign customer complaints, reduced sales and damages to the company's image," added Victory Contents.
The company also mentioned, 'We tried to efficiently proceed with negotiating the compensation fees for the damages with Keyeast Entertainment, but we unfortunately had to file a lawsuit as they were not cooperative during this process."
In response, actor Ji-soo's management agency, Keyeast Entertainment stated, "We were trying to settle the matter smoothly without avoiding responsibility by communicating with the production company, however we are taken aback by the sudden lawsuit. We are currently looking into the situation."
Keyeast Entertainment is set to release an additional statement later today.
As actor Ji-soo dropped out of the drama due to his controversy over school violence, the production company replaced Ji-soo with actor Na In-woo from the seventh episode.
