SEOUL, Dec. 6 (Yonhap) -- Contract renewal is a major issue among fandom of K-pop idol groups, particularly when the band is a global superstar -- like BLACKPINK.
BLACKPINK fans flocked to the online communities to congratulate the K-pop girl group’s
contract renewal with its agency, thrilled to see prolonged activities by all four members.
“These BLACKPINK
girls make me tear up… thank you and thank you again… We must celebrate the
contract renewal with a fan meeting,” moosoon_zip, a BLACKPINK fan, wrote on
social network service X.
Another
fan, 12_o_clock12, posted on X, “All BLACKPINK members signed… YG is incredibly
fortunate.”

The online bustle ignited Wednesday morning immediately after YG Entertainment, the agency of BLACKPINK, announced that the K-pop quartet signed a contract renewal to continue their group activities.
YG, one of the big-four entertainment behemoths along with SM, JYP
and Hybe, has been sweating over BLACKPINK’s contract renewal issue for months.
The group’s seven-year exclusive contract with YG expired in August, since which both sides had been
negotiating extension of the contract.
"(YG)
has completed the board resolution regarding the exclusive group contract for
all four members of the BLACKPINK group," YG said in a press
release.

The
contract renewal is expected to let YG secure its largest intellectual
property. The fresh contract allows YG to continue managing BLACKPINK’s music,
concerts and promotional activities.
But
the detailed terms of the new contract are not revealed. The contract about
each member’s individual activities, a bone of contentions that has been making
the deal much difficult, also remains in “negotiation,” according to the
agency.
YG
founder Yang Hyun-suk said, "We are happy to keep our relationship with
BLACKPINK… We will do our best to help strengthen BLACKPINK’s presence in the
global music market."
BLACKPINK
made their debut on Aug. 8, 2016, with the double title tracks “Whistle” and
“Boombayah.”
