(SEOUL, Mar. 14 (Yonhap) -- Rolling Quartz, formed in 2019, is a band that performs hard rock in the Korean music industry.

The group consists of 5 members in their 20s, including Arem (bassist), Iree (lead guitarist), Yeongeun (drummer), Jayoung (main vocalist), and Hyunjung (guitarist).

The band was originally two separate groups, Rolling Girlz and Rose Quartz, but merged into one and debuted with the first single “Blaze” in December 2020.

Vocalist Jayoung said, “When introducing our band, I often say ‘I thought it was a flower, it was a flame,” adding, “It means that I want to live like a hot flame rather than a pretty flower.”

Drummer Yeongeun said, "When I was in middle school, I saw Beyonce's band consisting only of female performers and thought, 'I want to be like that someday,’” adding, “I'm a woman, but my goal is to show powerful energy on stage.”

Rolling Quartz, became well-known with its first mini-album “Fighting,” released last month, ranking No. 23 on iTunes worldwide album chart and No. 5 on US rock album chart. This is the best record as a Korean indie band.

Guitarist Iree recalled, "When I heard that we ranked fifth on the U.S. rock chart, I thought fans photoshopped it," adding, "I couldn't believe we were under the names of famous rock stars."

Rolling Quartz hoped that they would someday be at the top of the Korean chart based on the good performance on overseas charts.

Jayoung explained, "Our ambition is to make rock music into major mainstream music."

"My dream is to play the guitar passionately on stage after COVID-19 and throw the pick in a cool way (laughs),” said Iree.
