SEOUL, Aug. 5 (Yonhap) -- “Usually, we feel like going on a vacation to the beach or somewhere when we think of summer songs. But our new song tells the listeners that us being together is being on a vacation and having a party,” said the leader Park So-eun, about Weeekly’s new album.

Girl band Weeekly is back on stage with its 4th mini-album, “Play Game: Holiday”, Thursday. This is their new album after finishing 3 episodes of “We.”

The group, which once was rookie, looks to have matured for the past one year. As can be seen from the title, this album consists of fresh and clear songs aiming for a summer hit.

“We focused on ‘us’ and being ‘together’ rather than on vacations or beaches. It is just the right summer song for these days, now that it is hard to go on a trip,” said the band about its title song “Holiday Party” on an online conference.

“It’s like a seasonal fruit. Seasonal fruits each has their most delicious seasons. Like that, this song goes well with mid-summer,” said Jihan.

“Holiday Party”, an up-tempo dance song, shows the group’s bouncy K-high teen (a combination of high school and teenagers) concept. The lyrics pictured a holiday party with the loved ones.

After finishing 3 consecutive albums, the band, who is celebrating its 1st debut anniversary, looks more professional.

“Compared to the previous songs which were based on school concepts, with our new album, you may be able to see that we have matured,” said Lee Jae-hee, adding with a laugh that they will not be using any props for performances.

Weeekly has been performing using various props such as desks, cubes and skateboards but this time, they are decorating the stage only with energetic dances and facial expressions.

We have concentrated on expressing the song in many ways, said the members.

Apart from the title, the album includes side-tracks such as “Weekend”, depicting the scene of getting ready for a special holiday, “Check it Out”, a song about the excitement of setting out on trip with friends and “La Luna”, comparing the unspoken feelings to the distance between the moon and the Earth.

The album’s first week’s sales exceeded those of the band’s other albums. Also, this is their first release after, the attention the band has received, even from overseas listeners, with its previous album “After School.

“Seeing many fans around the world enjoying our song, I could feel it with my skin that music overcomes language barriers,” said Lee Soo-jin.

“For the last one year, we were able to continue singing on stages thanks to our fans. We felt such accomplishment, achieving one by one, the things we’ve dreamt of,” added Zoa, about the group’s gratitude.

“We learn a lot from other artist’s performances. Weeekly will strive to be loved with its own friendliness and naturality,” said Monday, expressing the band’s ambition.

One of the members, Shin Ji-yoon, is taking a temporary break due to health concerns. Weeekly, including the activities for this album, will be working in 6 members for now.
