SEOUL, June 12 (Yonhap) -- Kakao Entertainment began releasing a new webtoon series titled “King the Land” in tandem with JTBC’s upcoming rom-com series of the same title that will premiere this Saturday.
The television series will revolve around a cold-hearted heir to the King Hotel coming to learn the meaning of true love at the VIP Lounge, King the Land, with a lively hotel receptionist.
In the drama, singer-turned-actor Lee Jun-ho will suit up as the smart, chic hotel owner Gu-won, while Lim Yoon-a plays his opposite role, Cheon Sa-rang.
The story told in the webtoon series will not only run in line with the drama’s story but also revolve around the story before, during and after the plot of the drama series.
Ahead of the drama’s premiere, the webtoon series released the first seven episodes last Saturday, depicting the two main characters’ childhood years.
The webtoon series began when Kakao Entertainment approached the production company and writer after seeing the potential of the work as an intellectual property (IP). Unlike other webtoon or web novel adaptations, “King the Land” will be aired and serialized simultaneously.
“It will offer a new experience for our readers to follow the story in two different media formats, one as a webtoon series and another as a televised series, simultaneously. They will be able to enjoy the story from different angles and perspectives,” Kakao Entertainment said in a press release. “We wish to continue creating a new paradigm in the IP business sector,” it added.
The forthcoming drama series will air every Saturday and Sunday at 10: 30 p.m. (KST) on JTBC. In the meantime, webtoon episodes will be released every Saturday on Kakao Page and Kakao Webtoon services.
