SEOUL, Mar. 21 (Yonhap) -- Director Jang Hang-joon’s upcoming film “Rebound” has been invited to Italy’s Udine Far East Film Festival, which is known as one of the representative venues to promote Asian Cinema in Europe.
The Korean-made sports film has also been nominated for the Audience Award for the 25th Udine Far East Film Festival.
“Rebound,” loosely based on the true story of the JungAng High School basketball team in Busan, follows an under-sized and under-skilled high school basketball struggling and miraculously making it through the finals of the national high school basketball league. The film is expected to hit local theaters on Apr. 5.
Sabrina Barachetti, executive chairman of the Far East Film Festival, said, “It is a film based on a true story that features a team that learns how to live with dignity and persistence whilst embodying the essential and original spirit of sports.”
The Udine Far East Film Festival touts itself as Europe’s largest film festival introducing Asian films, held annually in Udine, northeastern Italy.
The winning films in the competition categories are selected by the audience attending the festival. The Korean-made film “Miracle” won the Golden Mulberry Award last year.
This year’s festival is scheduled to be held from Apr. 21 to 29.
