SHANGHAI, July 23 (Yonhap) -- Kris Wu, a Chinese Canadian singer and former member of idol group EXO, is officially under investigation after a 19-year-old accused him of luring several women, including minors, for sex.

While the public security bureau in China reported the investigation to be underway, it suggested Kris Wu's case will be dealt with in accordance with the law when the results come out. As a result, there is a possibility that Kris Wu will face heavy criminal punishments in China in the future.

The Chaoyang branch office of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau announced to investigate on the information disclosed by Wu's accuser Du Meizhu on the internet, as well as Wu's police report against Du, according to the Beijing Youth Daily on Thursday. In the meantime, the interim investigation results were released first.

The public security bureau said investigations on allegations that Kris Wu had seduced young women several times for sex and a series of related acts are still in process. In addition, after the results of the investigation are finalized, the police is planning to proceed the case according to the law.

Kris Wu charged Du Meizhu for blackmailing him and requesting large sums of money.

However, the police concluded that the actual blackmailer was not Du Meizhu, but a man who pretended to be her.

According to interim investigation results, Wu's manager took Du Meizhu to the singer's house, saying he was interviewing the main female role for a music video at 10 p.m. on December 5 last year.

At the time, about 10 people were drinking and partying at Wu's house until the next morning.

After everyone else left on the morning of December 6, Kris Wu and Du Meizhu engaged in a sexual relationship and had exchanged contact via WeChat app until April of the following year.

In June, after losing touch with Kris Wu, Du Meizhu began to expose their relationship on the internet.

Around this time, a 23-year-old man identified by his name, Liu, appeared. He approached Du Meizhu through WeChat, saying he was also a woman who was used and abandoned by Kris, in order to learn more about the singer's personal life.

Liu later demanded about 3 million yuan (around 530 million won) as settlement money to Wu via messenger in the name of Du Meizhu. Liu later presented his and Du's bank account for Wu to send the money.

On July 11, Wu sent 500,000 yuan only to Du Meizhu's account. Liu, who was unable to collect the money himself, asked Wu to send the remaining 2.5 million yuan, but did not succeed in receiving the money.

The police concluded that Du Meizhu did not conspire with Liu in the process of defrauding Wu, but that Liu pretended to be Du Meizhu.

Last week, in an interveiw with Netease, a Chinese news portal, Du Meizhu claimed that Kris Wu had seduced many women for sex, and that there were more than eight victims, including two minors.

Kris Wu emerged as a top star while working as a singer and actor in China after filing a lawsuit against his previous South Korean agency SM Entertainment in 2014.
