SEOUL, June 11 (Yonhap) -- JTBC's hit series 'SKY Castle' is set to be remade in Japan, with its first broadcast scheduled for July on TV Asahi, as announced by production company SLL on June 11. The Japanese remake has confirmed its main cast and begun filming.

'SKY Castle' originally aired in South Korea from November 2018 to February 2019 and satirized the intense competition among affluent parents striving to secure prestigious university placements for their children.

The show achieved high ratings, peaking at 23.8%. While the original focused on university entrance exams, the Japanese version will center around the competitive high school entrance process, which is notoriously rigorous in Japan.

Notably, the role of Han Seo-jin, originally played by Yum Jung-ah, will be portrayed by popular Japanese actress Naoh Matsushita. Other prominent Japanese actors have also joined the cast.

SLL's head of production, Park Joon-seo, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, "We are delighted to announce this meaningful partnership with TV Asahi. This remake is just the beginning of our plans to develop and produce competitive content for the global market."

This adaptation of 'SKY Castle' underscores the show's universal themes and its ability to resonate with audiences beyond South Korea, showcasing the pressures and challenges of educational systems worldwide.
