SEOUL, April 22 (Yonhap) -- The city of Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 22nd that it will be holding the city's representative festival, "18th Ansan Street Arts Festival 2022" from 5th-8th May at the Ansan Culture Plaza.
The festival which will be held for four days, will begin with a collaborative dance project with about 100 citizens along with Ambiguous Dance Company, who received attention with "Tiger is Coming." It will also have a variety of performances and events including an art market for young artists in Ansan.
All the 62 teams that are performing 65 performances are from South Korea.
Ansan Street Arts Festival, which began in 2005 has been a representative streets arts festival with about 700,000 people visiting each year. Apart from being designated as one of the representative festivals of Gyeonggi, it has been picked as an Excellent Performing Arts Festival by the Arts Council Korea.
In 2020, the festival was cancelled due to COVID-19 and in 2021, the performances which were held outdoors were individually performed at small theaters. It will be the first time in three years to be held outdoors.
The city held a Safety Policy Coordination Committee along with the event organizers to plan on the safety of the festival the day before.
Recognizing the importance of safety management, as much as it is the first big event after the quarantine rules has been lifted, the committee has decided to prioritize on the safety first.
The city plans to do the inspections till the day before the opening as per the guidelines of the committee and will also check on the electricity, gas and all the other things that has to be ensured.
"As much as it is a festival with a large number of people gathering, a minor accident can lead to a big one," an official from the city said. "Since it is an outdoor festival in a long time, we will do our best to make a fun, and comfortable festival where people will be able to enjoy."
