Movie theater stocks soar after S. Korea's decision to fully lift COVID-19 quarantine

SEOUL, Apr. 16 (Yonhap) -- With the government's decision to completely lift social distancing from April 18, movie theater stocks began to soar on Friday.


On Friday's KOSDAQ market, movie distributor Showbox Corp. closed at 6,600 won, up 15.79 percent from the previous trading day, and NEW closed at 11,700 won, up 10.90 percent.

Megabox's management company J Contentree Corp. (5.38 percent) and CJ CGV (0.72 percent) also showed good performance.

South Korea's government announced to lift all social distancing rules related to COVID-19, including the midnight business hour curfew for restaurants, cafes, and other small businesses, from April 18. Food intake in movie theaters will also be available starting from April 25.
