SEOUL, Apr. 12 (Yonhap) -- Jeonju City, North Jeolla Province announced on the 12th that they have confirmed the program, "Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival" that is being held this May.
The purpose of this festival is to find the way to industrialize and globalize while still admiring the taste and value of Jeonju Hanji (Korean paper).
This year's festival will consist of 16 programs in 4 categories including the opening event, experience event and Hanji Madang, exhibitions, and side events.
The opening ceremony will consist of an online opening ceremony, a awards ceremony for the hanji craft competition, and a fashion show where all the citizens are free to join.
At the Hanji Madang, one will be able to make lighting lamps and garden lamps using hanji (Korean paper) or even be able to experience making the hanji itself.
Other exhibition events include the "Hanji Sculpture Exhibition" where Korean artists made various sculptures using Hanji, "Hanji showroom" where people can enjoy many different household items that are made with Hanji and the "National Hanji Craft Exhibition" where the winner will exhibit their work.
For people to participate, there will also be events like "Jeonju Hanji Goods Competition," "Jeonju Hanji Arts Competition for Children," "Hanji Experience Kit Competition" and many more.
The festival will be held for four days from May 5th at the Korea Traditional Culture Center.
With the slogan "Enjoy and play with hanji," it looks at the use of hanji in our daily life while also having lots of fun.
The director of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Jeonju, Seo Bae-won said, "This year, we have further strengthened the children and family-oriented programs while also expanding the experience space. We really hope that one could see, feel, learn and also enjoy Hanji at the Hanji festival with their family."
