SEOUL, March 6 (Yonhap) -- The National Museum of Korea announced that the 94 Egyptian artifacts owned by the Brooklyn Museum in the United States, will be moved to the Jeonju National Museum and be displayed from Mar. 17 to Aug. 17.
The Egyptian artifacts consist of the Coffin of Thothirdes and the mummy, which is said to have been produced about 2,700 years ago, the Head of a King presumed to be Ptolemy XII, and a sculpture depicting Ramses II.
The National Museum of Korea reorganized its existing Asian Arts Gallery into the World Art Gallery in December 2019, and the Egyptian artifacts, which are world-famous cultural assets, were brought from the United States to prepare an Egyptian room. The exhibition ended on March 1st.
The National Museum of Korea also plans to change the Egyptian room to Mesopotamian room and operate them for a year and a half from July.
An official from the museum said, "The Egyptian room was a must-visit attraction for family visitors,” adding, “The Jeonju exhibition will also be held free of charge."
