SEOUL, Dec. 20 (Yonhap) -- K-pop giant BTS has been selected as the world’s most loved K-pop singer for 6 years in a row.
The super-band has topped (taking up to 24.98 % of the total votes) for the best K-pop star of the year, according to KBS World Radio’s survey of about 1,225,000 people around the world Monday.
The band has been on top rank for the survey, which KBS World Radio began in 2016, for 6 consecutive years.
The superstars 1st-ranked (47.15 %) for “Boy group of the Year” and has listed 3 songs in top 5 for the “Song of the Year.” The songs were “Butter” (2nd place), “Permission to Dance” (3rd place) and “Dynamite” (5th place). They received the most votes as a single artist.
In addition, TWICE who landed on 1st place (36.82 %) for “Girl group of the Year” topped for the “Song of the Year” with “Alcohol-Free” (18.72%) beating “Butter.” For “Solo of the Year,” IU (37.18%) grasped top rank.
Mentioning unrivaled performance skills as K-pop’s world-class popularity, Kim Young-dae pop culture critic said, “In the future, K-pop will combine with new technologies such as metaverse and NFT to show a rapider growth as a complex industry.”
1,225,744 people from 208 countries voted in the survey through KBS World Radio’s website and mobile app from Nov. 22 to Dec. 6.
Based on the results, the broadcaster will air a special year-end program featuring the most loved K-pop by the world on the 25th and the 26th in 10 languages. Detailed survey results are available on KBS World Radio website and mobile app.
