SEOUL April 11 (Yonhap) -- S.Korean singer BoA has raised the issue of recent malicious comments directed at her, expressing distress and announcing plans for large-scale legal action.

Her agency, SM Entertainment, stated on the 11th, "Due to ongoing false information dissemination, malicious personal attacks, defamation, and insults primarily on various social networking services (SNS), video sharing platforms, and online communities, we are collaborating with external legal advisory firms, including the law firm Sejong, to proceed with large-scale legal action domestically and internationally."

SM added, "We have already collected sufficient evidence for numerous posts and are investigating and pursuing legal action against specific cases, including cyber defamation (spread of false information by some YouTubers)." They emphasized plans to pursue legal responsibility through continuous information gathering.

BoA has been active as both a singer and actress, appearing in the tvN drama "Marry My Husband" earlier this year and releasing her latest single "Emptiness" last month.

However, along with her active career, she has faced severe insults and defamation. BoA recently posted on her own SNS, hinting at retirement by writing, "My contract is until December 31, 2025," raising concerns among her fans.

SM stated, "Such (defamatory) acts have reached a level that is too serious for one person to bear," adding, "As a result, the artist (BoA) is experiencing significant mental distress and enduring a very difficult time."

Furthermore, SM emphasized, "We intend to legally punish those involved without leniency or agreement," warning, "We want everyone to be aware that publishing malicious posts at this moment or any moment could result in legal repercussions."
