SEOUL, March 12 (Yonhap) -- On March 11th, the second season of one of tvN's most loved cooking reality show, "Mother's Touch: Korean Side Dishes" hosted by actress Kim Soo-mi has ended.

According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research company, the viewership of tvN's "Mother's Touch: Korean Side Dishes" which aired at 7 p.m. on March 11th, recorded a total of 1.6%.

In the final episode Kim Soo-mi worked on recipes from South and North Korea with a North Korean cuisine expert Heo Jin. Some of the foods included dried pollack soup, radish pancakes, pickled cucumbers and sundae (pig intestines).

In addition, Vice Unification Minister Suh Ho, who visited North Korea more than 100 times, appeared as a surprise guest and also tasted the various side dishes. After eating each dish he repeatedly complimented it by saying, "I feel as if I'm eating a dish at Pyongyang in person."

Chef Lee Yeon-bok, actor Hong Seok-cheon and singer Lee Teuk, known to be the "students" of Kim Soo-mi on the show also wrapped up the program warmly by introducing dishes using canned ham such as Menbosha, fire chicken noodle cheese pancakes and Thai-style fried rice. Comedian Jang Dong-min who had worked for a long time with Kim Soo-mi as one of the emcees also expressed sadness at the end of the show.

Kim Soo-mi said in the final episode, "There's a saying that goes, those who meet must part. It's a shame that we have to end this program but I don't think I'll ever forget working on 'Mother's Touch: Korean Side Dishes'.

"Mother's Touch: Korean Side Dishes," which began in June 2018, was loved by a wide range of viewers, including housewives as well as single-person households, as it was designed to bring back side dishes menus that were unique and homemade. As the program aired during dinner time, it helped increase the number of viewers significantly.

The program was well-received by viewers as it easily explains simple recipes that still taste like homemade side dishes. The recipe was also published as a book, which was very popular as well. In addition, special episodes that featured Tokyo's side dishes, a Guam-styled buffet, and South Korean soldiers also drew attention to the tv show.

The schedule for the next season has yet to be decided.
