JEJU, Feb. 26 (Yonhap) -- The Jeju Fire Festival, which is called the "biggest fireworks in the world," will be held from Mar. 18 to Mar. 20 in the area around Saebyeol Volcanic Cone, Bongseong Village, Aewol-eup.
The theme of the 24th festival this year is “Wildfire, live with hope!”
The flame lighting ceremony and special performances will be held for the opening ceremony. The event of “Set Fire on Volcanic Cone,” which is the highlight of the Fire Festival, will also be performed splendidly by starting off with “fire concert,” followed by laser drawing show and volcanic show.
In order to attend the opening ceremony, which will be held with a drive-through system, and “Set Fire on Volcanic Cone” event, reservations must be made in advance through the website of the Fire Festival from Mar. 2 to Mar. 6.
The city of Jeju plans to deliver the heat of the festival to those who cannot participate in person by utilizing the virtual space of Metaverse platform and providing the online contents.
The Jeju Fire Festival began in 1997 as a cultural tourism festival that reproduced Jeju’s old nomadic culture called “Bangae,” where people burnt down the fields to drive the cattle through the hilly fields to find quality grass for grazing animals, such as cows and horses.
It was not held in 2020 due to the spread of COVID-19, but last year, it received favorable reviews as it was held with drive-through system and online broadcasting in accordance with the guidelines of healthcare authorities
