SEOUL, September 21 (Yonhap) -- Actor Jung Ryeo-won, who played as a public prosecutor in the dramas "Witch Court," and "Diary of a Prosecutor," is now playing as a lawyer in the new Disney Plus original series.
At the press conference held on Wednesday at the Westin Joseon Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul for the new Disney Plus original series "May It Please the Court," Jung Ryeo-won said, "It felt new because I played as a lawyer this time, although it's my third time filming a court drama."
Jung Ryeo-won played as a prosecutor in her previous dramas, "Witch Court" and "Diary of a Prosecutor." Jeong Ryeo-won said, "In fact, I read the script without thinking much because I didn't want to take the character as it was a court drama," and added, "I thought to myself, 'Do I like these too much?'" expressing affection for the series.
"May it Please the Court" is a court mystery drama in which Noh Chak-hee (Jung Ryeo-won), a self-indulgent lawyer who does anything for a success, and Jwa Si-baek (Lee Kyu-hyung), a unique lawyer who goes through fire and water for things he is stuck on, work together to track down the truth hidden in the case. It is based on an essay of the same name.
Director Kang Min-goo introduced the drama, "I wanted to portray how public-appointed lawyers with a low possibility of winning the trial live for the common people in court." He added, "Although it is a court mystery genre, the drama includes comedy and human stories as well."
Jung Ryeo-won and Lee Kyu-hyung will be acting as lawyers with opposite personalities.
Jung Ryeo-won explained her character, "No Chak-hee was an ace lawyer who was thriving for success, but with some incident, she became a public appointed lawyer." She added, "I wanted to visually show the character's obsession with success," adding, "No Chak-hee is a character who spends a lot of money on dressing herself up, so there will be a lot of things to see because her outfits are fancy."
Lee Kyu-hyung said, "Jwa Si-baek graduated as a top student at the Judicial Research and Training Institute but became a public appointed lawyer, helping many people after refusing to become a judge and a prosecutor." He continued, "The character is reckless who goes crazy for justice."
Actor Jung Jin-young plays Jang Ki-do, the CEO of Jangsan, a large law firm, building up tension in the drama.
Jung Jin-young said, "Jang Ki-do is a character with immense ambition who was born in a prestigious family and graduated from a prestigious university. He is a two-faced character who is known as a nice person, but actually evil," and recalled, "I haven't played a lot of villains, but Jang Ki-do was a very interesting villain."
The cast chose the less obvious development of the story line and the huge hidden story line as the charm of the drama.
Jeong Ryeo-won said, "Most of the dramas make the audience feel like cheering for one of the characters in the first episode, but in our drama, the audience will have doubts regarding the person they are cheering for," adding, "It is an attractive point that the audience won't be able to keep up with one's emotional line."
Lee Kyu-hyung said, "There is a huge case hidden under the court episode," adding, "It's interesting how the entangled incidents fit together like pieces of a puzzle."
The first and second episodes were released on Wednesday.
