SEOUL, Oct. 20 (Yonhap) -- “BoyNextDoor’s confidence comes from our music itself. We believe our music is something only we can truly express, and that confidence naturally shows on stage,” member Taesan said.

K-pop boy band BoyNextDoor expressed strong pride in their musical identity as they returned with their fifth EP, “The Action.”

At a showcase held at KBS Arena in Seoul’s Gangseo District on Monday, the group said, “Our goal is to make people think, ‘BoyNextDoor is really good at music.’ We worked hard to turn fans’ expectations into confidence.”

Their new EP “The Action” embodies the group’s desire for growth and their fearless, forward-looking mindset. The album features five tracks, including the title track “Hollywood Action,” as well as “Jam!,” “Bathroom” and “You Know.”

The title track combines a swing rhythm with lively brass sounds and conveys an attitude full of confidence and boldness, like that of a Hollywood star. Members Myung Jaehyun, Taesan, Lee Han and Woonhak participated in the songwriting process, adding to the song’s addictive quality.

“As soon as we heard the song, we all said, ‘This concept is totally our specialty,’” Myung Jaehyun said. “Among all our songs so far, we think this one has the best chorus.”

Riu added, “The chorus was so good it made me frown the moment I heard it.”

The members said they always try to express their honest emotions through their music, and this time, they focused on courage and taking action toward growth.

“Whenever we feel lacking, we believe we should take action to improve,” Woonhak said. “We wanted to convey the message of moving forward with our music without hesitation or fear, and we hope that feeling reaches listeners.”

BoyNextDoor’s confidence has also translated into success. The group has achieved back-to-back million-seller records with their previous albums and performed at major global events, including the U.S. music festival “Lollapalooza.”

“We always try to stay close to our fans,” Sungho said. “We often talk about whether listeners can relate to our songs, and it’s most rewarding when fans tell us, ‘That sounds like my story,’ or ‘It reminds me of my past.’”

Lee Han added, “The more we perform, the more we realize how precious the stage is. At first, we were nervous, but now we’re able to show even more than what we practiced.”

The group said they hope to continue sharing music that reflects their six members’ individual lives and emotions.

“The charm of our music is that it comes directly from our own experiences. Because each of us expresses what we feel in real life, we can deliver music that’s truly our own,” they said.
