SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- We can meet the old music videos of H.O.T, S.E.S, Shinhwa and BoA who received immense love between the 1990s and 2000s in high image quality.
SM Entertainment and YouTube will carry out a “Remastering Project,” the agency announced Thursday.
“The project is to remaster K-pop music videos that have been widely loved for the last decades in an image quality appropriate for digital platforms then to reelase them in order. As K-pop is being globally recognized, the project looks back on its history,” said SM Entertainment.
“We aim to contribute to the Korean music industry by introducing SM and YouTube’s collaborated contents to the global K-pop fandom.
Starting from H.O.T’s debut song “Warrior’s Descendant” released Thursday, the agency plans to present over 300 high-image quality music videos of famous singers including S.E.S, Shinhwa, Fly To The Sky and BoA.
“Music videos are SM’s valuable asset containing everything SM pursues and wishes and are a compilation of K-pop’s history, an SM’s ever-unchanging heritage. We will consistently expand K-pop’s base by introducing the history and progress of K-pop to the global music fans through various campaigns including YouTube original contents,” said the agency.
“K-pop is gathering more and more global attention. Of course the ‘hot’ trendy attractions are important as well, but wouldn’t K-pop gain more interest if we introduce the long history and origin of our music to the foreign fans?”
“H.O.T and Shinhwa’s fans are now mother or fathers. They share the sons and daughters’ K-pop. Although, the music differ between generations but are the same in kind so SM’s goal is to make music people can enjoy together.”
Also, rookie girl-group aespa will reveal S.E.S’s hit song “Dreams Come True” with their own color added to it.
“I used to listen and sing to S.E.S’s songs since I was a child. It is an honor to be able to present our style of their song through this great opportunity. In the new music video for ‘Dreams Come True,’ we will show you our universe and message that travel through past and present, so you can look forward to it,” said Karina.
“We wondered a lot how to save the original song and at the same time feature aespa’s unique style. We will try hard to regain love for our beloved singers’s song by reproducing it into today’s style,” said Giselle.
